Gohara limestone export to Iraq, Turkey and the Arab countries

Gohara (Ocean Beige) cream limestone for stairs and floors: blocks in Super, Grade 1 and Grade 2, tiles in 30 × 60, 30 × 120, 25 × 120 and 140 × 70 cm, 40 cm width in free length and stair stone from 3 cm.

Gohara - also written Gohareh and sold internationally as Ocean Beige - is one of the best known Iranian building stones. It is a light cream limestone quarried around Khorramabad in Lorestan province, and it has been used for decades for staircases and floors: the colour is even, the price is moderate, and one single grade can be supplied in the quantity a whole building needs.

Stone Get supplies Gohara both as raw blocks and as finished, calibrated pieces, and ships to Iraq including the Kurdistan Region, to Turkey, and to the Arab countries of the Gulf and the Levant.

Sizes we supply

Every piece is cut to an exact thickness with the smallest tolerance we can hold. On site that is what decides whether a floor can be laid quickly, so it is where the cutting quality shows.

  • 30 × 60 cm
  • 30 × 120 cm
  • 25 × 120 cm - the width most often ordered for projects in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq
  • 140 × 70 cm
  • 40 cm width in free length, cut to the length your project needs
  • Stair stone, treads and risers, from 3 cm thickness upwards

Super, Grade 1 and Grade 2

Gohara is sorted into three grades. The difference is how much marking the surface carries - grey patches, open pores and iron-coloured speckles:

  • Super: the most even surface, the lightest and most uniform cream tone, the fewest spots
  • Grade 1: a calm surface with only light markings
  • Grade 2: more visible pores and ochre speckling, a livelier picture

None of the three is a weaker stone. They are different pictures at different prices, and for a large floor the important thing is that one grade can be delivered in full. The comparison below shows a Grade 1 piece next to a Grade 2 piece from the same production.

Blocks

Raw blocks are available in the same three grades - Super, Grade 1 and Grade 2 - for customers who cut and calibrate in their own factory. We photograph and measure every block at the quarry before it is loaded, and the net dimensions are confirmed before shipment.

From block to finished piece

The block is cut on a disc saw under water, then calibrated to an exact thickness and finished. Gohara takes a good polish and is also supplied honed or matt, bush-hammered, tumbled or chiselled, depending on where the stone is going to be walked on.

Packing and shipping

On an export order, packing decides how much stone arrives intact. The pieces are packed in wooden crates, strapped, wrapped and marked, then loaded so that the container is filled evenly. We send photographs of the packed goods before the container leaves.

Where Gohara works, and where to take care

  • Staircases in residential and commercial buildings
  • Floors in offices, shops, lobbies and public areas
  • Wall cladding and lower façades
  • Window sills, skirtings and counter tops

Two honest limits belong on this page. Water absorption is comparatively high for a limestone, so Gohara is not the right choice for permanently wet areas. Abrasion resistance is moderate, so for stairs and heavily used floors we recommend 3 cm or more rather than 2 cm. Within those limits the stone has carried traffic in large buildings for decades.
